This presentation provides an accessible, compassionate overview of common mental health diagnoses, helping participants better understand what they mean, how they are identified, and how they impact thoughts, emotions, and daily functioning. Rather than focusing on labels, the session emphasizes the real human experiences behind diagnoses and explores how trauma, stress, culture, and life circumstances can influence mental health. Participants will gain clarity about the purpose of diagnosis, learn to recognize common signs and symptoms, and develop more empathy-based, informed ways to support themselves and others.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify common mental health diagnoses and describe their core features in everyday language.
- Explain the purpose of mental health diagnoses and how they are used in treatment, support, and recovery.
- Recognize how trauma, stress, culture, and life experiences can influence mental health symptoms.
- Differentiate between myths, stigma, and accurate information about mental health conditions.
- Apply a more compassionate, person-centered approach when interacting with individuals who have a mental health diagnosis.
- Increase confidence in discussing mental health diagnoses in a respectful and supportive way.
Please only register if you live or work in Mecklenburg or Cabarrus counties in North Carolina.
